The Temple of King Boko

About 3 kilometers south of Prambanan temple situated the area of Boko Temple in Sleman, Yogyakarta. By paying the ticket Rp 15,000 and additional Rp 7500 if you bring camera, we can start explore this 19 hectares park.





Boko temple, or Kraton Ratu Boko was built in the 8th century, is situated on the hill, very beautiful and amazing. This site gets good attention from the government, is neat and informative, equipped with supporting facilities for visitors. There are vast terrace that can be rented for weddings and other events where we can see the temples of Prambanan and Mendut from a distance.



Now this temple area is under the management of PT. Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko. In addition to the temple site facilitated with parking area, restaurants, souvenir shops, camping area and also tour packages and sunrise trekking.



Stepping on a wide street toward the main gate, on the left and right sides planted with various trees, and there are also a deer cage. The big and beautiful Boko palace main gate welcome us with grace.



Actually, this area is not a temple (place of worship) but more a palace. There are sections in it like a palace pavilion, hall (paseban) and women palace (keputren).



Keraton Ratu Boko area can be divided into 4 sections,
1. West: Mountain Area Tlatar, has not been fully excavated.
2. Middle Section: Main Gate, the center of town, burning temples, ponds and Paseban pedestals.
3. Southeast: Hall, bale-bale, 3 small temples, ponds and keputren.
4. East: wadon cave, lanang cave, pond, buddha statues and caves on the east side keputren.



Based on the ancient writings made by the Rakai Panangkaran 746-784M, the temple first called the Abhayagiri Vihara which means monastery on the top of the Mount of Peace. Then its designation changed and its name and its function became Walaing Palace. This site is a mixture of Hindu and Buddhist influences. Boko itself is a stork in the Java language.
