Gambar dari sini

The ceremony of the youngest daughter of Java's Jogja's Sultan Hamengkubuwono X was held last month in such an amazing ceremony and bash.  The procession was covered by aYogya local television.

We can watched Gusti Bendoro's hairline drawn by a Dukun Manten, a shaman specialized in bridal styling.  Hairline draw called cengkorongan Paes, a pattern to beautify the bride and groom with a particular style.

Dukun Manten trusted to style the bride and groom is Tienuk Rifki or Nyi Wedono Sembogo Pujo, a very renowned bride stylist.  In an interview she said she has fasted for two weeks to prepare this event.  Dukun Manten also the bride and groom usually fast before the ceremony in order to have peace of mind and cleanse the soul, a kind of prayer that to have good make up results, the ceremony is not disrupted, and the newlywed to have a successful life in the future.  The purity of the dukun manten’s soul was expected to reflects on the bride’s aura .

The bridal style Paes Ageng Yogyakarta was formerly used only for the Sultan and his realtives.  After the reign of Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX ordinary people are allowed to wear this bridal style as well as batik sheets.

This bridal style has a lot of philosophy and deep meaning.  The bride should undergo a halup-halupan (hairline shave) and aromatic fumes for hair treatment (ratus).  Cengkorongan is a pattern in the forehead in the hairline.  Citak is the dot between eyebrows, panunggul is the pattern in the middle, pengapit and penitis for the side pattern.

Accessories worn called raja keputren, made of gold and diamonds.  Cunduk menthul was a 5 pieces gold flowers attached above the bun, pethat was a mountain-shaped comb, kalung sungsun was a three tiered necklace, binggel kana bangle, dragon shaped shoulder chelate, centhung – little combs for the left and right of forehead, and the ring.

There’s a lot of offering prepared for the event.  For the make up mat the offerings were klasa Bangka (pandan leaf mats), apa-apa leaves and letrek fabrics (red, green, yellow and black fabrics). Offerings in the bridal suite were crusted candlenut, keluwak,  variety of nuts, corn, rice, letrek clothes, small mirror, face  powder, perfume, chicken egg, coconut sugar, lawe yarn, jug of water, stool,  betel leaves, boreh flower, bananas.  All arranged in a nyiru biru container.

Dukun Manten also casts a mantra / prayer /sembaga to request so all prayers will be answered and so the bide will be as pretty as an angel.
